A Little Bird

Now i don't know how you craft but for me i'm very much a chop and change kinda gal, One minute i'll be playing with paper, the next, the bling is out and i'm making jewelry... I find if i mix it up i never get bored or stuck in a creative rut. So why am i rambling on, well coz it's been all change here again, This week i decided it was time for canvas.. not done one in ages and really just wanted to get messy so out came the inks, paints and stamps and this is what transpired.
Oh and this is also my entry for
Mixed Media Monday 'Embellish It'
I just love the stunning colour of the feather as it catches the light

I do love the bird and his cage but find it hard to place him in it, hence the broken bars

As good as the real thing... I think so, This is one of the friendly plastic pieces i created from a mold i took from one of Tim's book plates

And there you have it...
Materials used:
  • Tim Holtz and Artistic Stamper stamps
  • viva copper croco, copper leaf sheets
  • distress ink- vintage photo, tumbled glass & peeled paint
  • alterations - regal crest and caged bird
  • grungeboard, cardboard, friendly plastic

Hidden Treasure

I don't know if i've told you folks
but i am of Pirate decent..
"shiver me timbers" and all that
Way way back it appears to have descended
from my fathers side of the family
To prove it i shall share with you
something that has been handed down
through the generations
It is a framed display
of some of the treasure
with a note of authentication.
PMSL.. Did i have you fooled for a second...No! oh ok then lol
So i'm not of pirate decent,
I am however partaking in this weeks Compendium of Curiosities challenge which is 'Inked Grunge'
I diecut my grunge using a sizzix parchment die, then followed the instructions on page 39.. You may spot i have indeed used some of the brand spanking new mini halloween timmy stamps. Aren't they awesome!
I covered the inside of the box frame with a mix of terra, ferro and croco {although you cant see the cracks of the croco as the piece is still wet lol} Then i just glued in lots of trinkets and treasures in the form of gems and charms and other pretty things

I gave the top frame a coat of amber gold ferra, I stuck the grunge parchment piece to the side.
I then made a sword by stamping an image onto metal, cutting it out and then removing the ink, and then embossing it to make it dimensional. My last finishing touch was to stamp the quote 'Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also' onto the glass with black stazon.
So what treasures will you come up with for the challenge!
This is also my entry for Hels Sunday Stamper Challenge with the theme 'Old & New'
The box frame and sizzix die were yonks old and i used my new timmy stamps!
{oh by the way the Brand New Artistic Stamper team blog has the same theme for there new challenge this month, so why not join in both, I'll be showcasing my artwork for it on the 7th}

Tin Pan Alley

Is the theme this month over at 'Alter it Monthly'
Basically they want to see anything with metal, be it tins, little cases, or in my case a piece of metal on a project.
Some of you may remember me talking about a cuff i was making..
well here it is....
It's a canvas base, overlayed with some jute ribbon and then topped with embossed TSS metal
 A button fastening
Grungboard wings behind a ferro covered TH alterations keyhole
Wrapped with TH alterations ferro covered keys either side.
I aged the gold coloured metal using some of my new hamatit coloured inka-gold.
This is a first attempt at a fabric/metal cuff and i've mixed feelings on how it's turned out...
Tell me what you think? and please be honest.
Have a fab bank holiday weekend.. think of me back to work tomorrow lol

99....100 here i come ready or not lol

This week over at Sunday Stamper there is a bit of a party going on... Why i here you ask! coz the SS challenge is only flaming well gonna be 100 next week.. but coz Hels is in the middle of a house move she's combining this week and next in to one almighty 100th giveaway challenge
The theme is 'Free as a bird'
Meaning you can do what ya like.. but you can add birdy's too if you so wish.
..........
So here is my offering.
I was determined to use as many of my new ally pally products as possible for this.
First i coloured a mountboard canvas with viva paper-soft colour and gold and iron ferro.
I cut 4 2"squares from scraps of mountboard and coated them with eco paint {i actually tried the pva crackle with these but it failed miserably.. and i wont bore you with the details} I distressed 2 tiles with stormy sky DI and 2 with brushed corduroy, then edged and generally roughed up with a black ink pad. Once i was happy with the colours i got out some of my new timmy stamps and gave each tile a picture.
Once these were how i wanted them i coated 2 with transparent croco and then highlight sections of the other 2 with glossy accents.
I punched a couple of holes using my big bite and finished with some old chain from a dismantled necklace...
Oh yeah taking of necklaces.. if you have a primark near by, head on in there as they have these 2 fab ones just ready to rip apart and use the elements off..

And a bargain at £5 for the pair.. Ok i've gone a little off track here but i do like to share a bargain.
So where was i.. oh yeah the sunday stamper,
Head on over the see Hels and join in and you could win some fab candy
The Artistic Stamper and The Stamp Attic are both sponsoring this challenge and you can win vouchers to spend on fabby stash.. so what you waiting for, join in today.. or tomorrow or any time over the next 2 weeks :)

AIM... mini book/matchbox!

I came across a new monthly challenge blog that just started this month called
Perfect i thought for giving my creativity a jump start each month.
They're starting off with 'altered matchboxes'
Now i know this looks more like a book than a matchbox but i'm hoping it still counts, as i have used a matchbox is a main part of the piece!... Honest!
As you can see i've altered a tiny ickle hardback book, i cut a hole in the front and added a wire window {totally inspired by a piece i saw on Effie's blog some months ago} I've distressed it with some viva paints and a couple of dabbers.
Ok so your wondering where the matchbox is.. well the handle is a clue!!
Yep you guessed it, the matchbox has been altered to become
a secret draw in the book filled with an ickle message.
Thanks for the fab challenge {even though i went a little off track with it} and i look forward to next months theme x
