WOYWW 177

Hay fellow desk hoppers, here we are once again,
Thanks to everyone who visited last week {sorry if I didn't make it to you, I do try my best}
I had quite a few comments/questions regarding my new toy from last week, so thought i'd try and clear some things up.
The Big Kick IS exactly the same as a Big Shot,{I think the name variation has to do with when sizzix and ellison merged} The version I have was made for Vintaj as a special edition in July 2011.
Brenda {butlersabroad} and a couple of others mentioned the electric big shot, but unfortunately that machine has been discontinued. But having tried out the manual one now it is very easy to use, More so than my cuttlebug, which I plan to sell to make some extra pennies.
The other thing I had alot of comments on was the shock at me going through 3 machines.
Just to clarify.. I'm not a mad crafter who has worn the machines out. They have just died.
The first after about 6 months of mild use, the 2nd after only a couple and the third almost a year. One day they work fine, and the next I go to use them to be met with a dull grown, like a battery on it's last legs. And i'm not the only one, several friends have had similar probs and several machines!
Sorry to have waffled on {I know our Julia likes us to keep it brief} but I think that covered everything,
Right to my desk this week
Sorry it's not very exciting but I had to cover up what was on show with the rag as it's top secret DT work and as such must be hidden so as not to spoil the fun, but there are a couple of little hints if you look hard enough. {As you can see it's dark out as the pic was taken in the early hours of this morning, I really must get myself to bed earlier lol}
Right i'm gonna try my best to make it to as many desks as poss.. So I can't hang around here any longer, See you in blogland x

Yes, getting to bed earlier doesn't always help when you're then awake again in the middle of the night (me again this week!)...

I also have heard so much about Vagabonds going wrong, and love my hand-cranked BigShot, although I must say I was envious of the colour of yours - mine is black, which is fine, with a pink handle, which is less so!

Love all that text on your screeen, is that a clue - look forward to seeing more... Happy WOYWW!

Nice neat desk this week! Don't forget to share what is under that rag next time! Glad to hear you got a new toy. I don't know whether I am lucky or what but the Big Shot I bought 4 years ago still works, the Vagabond I bought 6 months ago works like a charm and I just bought a new Big Shot Pro and I can't wait to play with it!. Hope you have a great week. Vickie #91

I have an electric Big Shot right in on my desk. I have to say I love it too. I don't know why they discontinued it but I'm hoping it wasn't because there were problems. I've sort of saved mine for when my shoulders get too bad to crank. Maybe I should use it more to see what is going to happen with it. Love your desk!

That was interesting ...motors do seem to cause problems ...I read a lot about problems with the Vagabond at the beginning ...which put me off ....but the manual ones are fine even with stiff shoulders I would think.xx#79

I'm really happy with my big shot, and after 18 months of light - medium use it is still great, am now hoping it stays that way. Occasionally it is hard to hand crank, but I find that is often when I have something thick in there.

Love your desk, it always looks as if there is so much to pick up and play with and makes me want to sit at it and get creating.

I like that new toy of yours I am thinking maybe I will need to put it on my christmas list (which is growing).

Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see your DT project revealed.

Your desk looks like you have everything with in easy reach. Great space to create. I use cuttlebug more for the thin dies I've come to love. The big shot works well with the old dies and the foam board.

The pink beastie is an eCraft Cutter. It is sort of like the Cameo Silhouette, but is supposed to pull paper from the pile at the back and not need a carrier sheet...it has issues however and does not always behave! I use it to make the titles etc for my class kits.

Robin said...

I had a cuttlebug, sold that and went to a wizard and a expressions, sold both those and went to a grand calibur and a Pazzles. I tried the big shot for the first time last week and was amazed how easy it was compared to the Grand Calibur. I only cut chipboard and it cut like butter. I am in such a quandary. I need suggestions... I can't cut chipboard on either of my tools as easy as this machine...but love my flat dies...oh what to do...

Thank you for sharing your desktop!

Love the inky tea towel,lol. I use an old towel for cleaning/drying my stamps, its so mucky looking, it has to go in the tumble drier- I wouldn't dare put it on the washing line, what would the neighbours think!Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #107

I love love love the look of the Vintaj version -- if I get a manual machine it'll definitely be this one.

That said, I have a lot of shoulder pain on my dominant side, so I don't know if a manual-turn machine is the best idea. If you have more insights about your previous Vagabonds or how easy you find this new Big Shot to crank, I'd love to hear them.

Yep I concur the electric Big Shot is a waste of good money and sadly Sizzix doesn't stand behind them, hence, they discontinued them. Sorry to hear the vagabond is having the same issues...but then it's made by sizzix. Happy WOYWW! Nan 27

Hi Minxy,

Thanks for visiting me. I'm glad you like the little tutorial. The bracelets are just so much fun to make - although I haven't made many since then......

Didn't link up to WOYWW because I was afraid I wouldn't have time to visit folks this week.

Hugs,
Kay
