WOYWW 191

Hay fellow desk hoppers, Just a quickie post from me today

As you can see I am still in full cuff making mode, I just finished 1 with another just needing a closure then they will both be going in my etsy store. And the 3rd still needs a lot of work!

I'm having lots of fun with these although all the hand sewing don't half hurt your fingers after a while lol.

Oh I wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the good luck wishes for last weeks driving lesson, which did go ahead and despite the snow was a pretty good lesson, And I have another this morning so I best be off for now.
I'll be hopping round your desks later x
Till then

Creativity Venture #1

Good Morning crafty peeps.
I am back today with something a little different than my usual stuff.
I promised myself that 2013 was going to be my year for making fabric art as I have a ton of doilies i've been hoarding, but i've been a bit lax {ok scared} in actually getting started, So when I was given my first 'personal' challenge from an online art group i'm part of called "Creativity Venture" I was forced to make a start.
I don't mean that in a bad way, I really needed the push and was so glad as I had tons of fun with the 2 projects I made.
My challenge was to make 2 fabric cuffs inspired by Pg 57 of the wonderful book
Layered, Tattered & Stitched by Ruth Rae.

The one above was created with felt, vintage doilies, junk jewellery and some stamped cotton.
***
The one below was an old denim dungaree strap, a mix of several cut up vintage doilies and some coloured lace.

I like the denim one so much so that i'm keeping it but the other one I think i'll pop in my etsy store some time next week. Having no job is really starting to suck, so all the pennies I can make ATM is a big help!
{now in my Etsy HERE} Think I might be making a few more for the etsy when time permits.
Thanks for taking the time to come visit me, I really appreciate you stopping by x
Till next time...

Inspired By:

This week it's the lovely Linda Cain who is showcasing her PaperArtsy styling.
I totally loved the colours on Linda's first tag so set to work making one of my own
I used 'haystack' 'smoked paprika' 'claret' 'hyde park' 'limelight' and 'baltic blue' Fresco's and then I dipped into my basket of 'ink and the dog' stamps and found the 'eclectic 6' plate.
Instead of stars {like on Linda's tag} I used my white pen to highlight some of the image.
And finished with a stamped fragment tied on with string.

This is also my Anything but a Card entry for their 'Tie It Up' challenge.

I'll be back again soon with more art as I have been rather busy making, and just had no time to photograph!

Alpha Challenge:

C is for..... Confused.
Are you?
The Craft Barn Alpha Challenge is on it's second letter of C this fortnight and as soon as I saw the word, well you can tell what popped into my mind!
I drew my confused . com gal in pencil first then coloured her in with portfolios, blending with both water for the hair and face to get a cleaner line, and just my fingers for the background.
 {this is a disclaimer to say I am in no way connected to the .com site}
I wasn't too sure about the page when I started it but as I added colour and finished it up I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the end result.
Thanks for stopping by x

Oh but before you leave if you fancy seeing some more art, then hop on over to the Snazzy DT Blog where i'm showcasing my first DT project of this year,

Inspired By:

This past week over on the Paper Artsy Blog the very talented Helen Chilton is the guest designer.
My piece was inspired by a mix of day #2 and #4's projects.
I have had my portfolio's for some time and they were kinda unloved so it was lots of fun to get them out again and use them in ways i've not tried before.
I loved the scratchy background and combined it with the stamped image/scratch highlighting, and a bit of light text stamping.
The whole piece is on one of the cool paper substrate hanging thingys.
I think I might just have a play in my journal with the same technique as it was lots of fun.
Till next time, Stay Inky

Alpha Challenge wk1

Over at The Craft Barn there is a new challenge for this year,
It's an Alpha Challenge using an old dictionary. Every 2 weeks they give a new letter, you then have to pick a word and journal/ elaborate on it either in the dictionary itself or using the page in some way making sure the word you picked is highlighted in some way.
The first letter picked was V and here is my page:
V for Voo'Doo
It might seem like quite a dark page, but it's not,
I was looking through the pages for a word and voo'doo jumped out at me, only because a few days ago I was having a bit of a joke with friends, {I am taking part in a year long 'Creativity Venture' and our Sargent Major, er I mean teacher/organiser was giving us a bit of a hard time and we we all joking about getting a voo-doo doll for her}
I used my Derwent Inktense Blocks for the first time,  I wanted a washed kinda look to be able to see the text underneath. The process was a bit messy on the old hands as a coloured the page and then washed over with a water brush, but I had fun doing it and that's what counts.
Looking forward to the next letter.
Till then, Stay Inky

A Bit of Zing

I've been trying to get a bit more colourful in my art which is why I invested in some of the more zingy colours of fresco's.. I tend to gravitate toward colours I like and am comfortable with like browns and blues so seeing Michelle's bright journal page I decided to do one of my own.
I also wanted to play with my new JoFy stamps..
I like the flower concept but wanted to see what other ways I could use the stamps.
I did a bit of paint scraping, I bit of spraying through a stencil and then the stamping.
I'm not totally convinced I like the colour choice of 'zesty zing' 'smoked paprika' and 'baltic blue' but hay ho it's a learning curve.
I'm sneaking this piece in last minute for the PA Challenge.

Fresco Overload!

Sorry you've not seen alot of blog action so far this year.. But i've been having far to much fun actually playing with my supplies, not just looking at them.
My latest flavour of the month {well the past few months to be honest} is Paper Artsy's yummy Fresco chalk paints and Treasured gold waxes.
So when I saw on the PA blog that there was a challenge I lept into action with my PA supplies...
This was the first thing I made:
I used the fab fresco crackle which gives amazing effects.
Did a bit of stamping using the 'swirls & curls 2' and 'squiggly ink mini', I coloured in the dragonflies with some ruby treasured gold.
And finished with little metal feet and some pretty dotty paper to finish the inside.
***
When I went back to see about linking my project I actually took a moment to READ the post and it it would seem I got a little too carried away..
In all the excitement of hearing PA had taken on my buddy Gillian and them having new Guest Designer slots I missed 1 crucial detail... My challenge piece was s'posed to be 'inspired' by Michelle, the first Guest Designer.. Oops!!
Not to worry though, It just gave me a chance to get out my PA supplies all over again and play some more..
This time I made a tag...
I did try altering a little gift bag with the same colours Michelle used for her first piece but with disastrous effects, so I changed up the colours and went back to basic with a tag and was much happier with the results. I used one of the stamp and die sets, stamping on the tag, then die cutting and stamping on plastic packaging to give more interest.
***
Well done if you made it to the end of today's post, Next time i'll try and read what i'm doing and not let myself get caught up in the moment!! {although it's not a bad thing}
Thanks for stopping by and All the best to Gillian and all the guest designers, I look forward to viewing all the lovely things i'm sure are to come.

Anything Goes!

This is very cheeky last minute entry for this weeks
Simon Says Stamp'n'Show Anything Goes challenge
{technically last weeks but I got in with 4 hours to spare!!}
I made a little name plate for my craft room.
Just before christmas I found a lovely vintage scrabble set in the local charity shop, I snapped it up so quick I can tell ya!! But I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the lovely letter holders till I saw a friend with a name plate on her desk, I loved the idea so had to make a few.
The one above is obviously mine, using Tim Holtz mini gear die-cuts and some metal gears.
I also made one for my friend Lily {nickname Queen} again using some of Tim's dies and some spellbinders too.
And i'm working on a third for my mate Gillian but that's still a work in progress and will have to be shared another time.
***
I'll be back later in the week to share a PaperArtsy project i've been working on for the challenge they have going to welcome Michelle Webb as the first of many new guest designers.

New Year New Journal

Although I still had a couple of pages left in my 2012 journal I wanted to start a fresh.
I like the idea of having a yearly journal to work in to look back and see exactly what I accomplished throughout the year.
This is my first page:
Although I enjoyed the whole calender challenge last year I always felt bad for not filling in all the days so this year i've decided to just make a month page to separate my year.
I'm taking part again in this years Creative Jump Start organised by Nat Kalbach {you can still sign up}
And this page was totally inspired after watching Day #2 Julie Fei-Fan Balzer play with stencils.
This is certainly not my usual style, but something I had been aspiring to, to be more daring with colour, and leave white spaces.. I'm real happy with how it came out.
***
I have been a busy little bee the past couple of days,  results of which will appear on my blog in the not to distant future.. Till then.
